 Event Details Below:

May 11th:

  • Ride your bike to the Public Market! (6am-2pm) - If you ride to the market on May 11th, you will get a free market shopping bag.  Avoid the gasoline-powered traffic jam and enjoy bicycle rock-star parking at the Market's bike racks.  Bring your panniers to take home lots of goodies!

  • Lilac Festival Parade - Bicycle Lifestyle entry (8am-Noon) - Dress up your bike and ride in the Lilac Festival parade!  Our entry will include bikes of all kinds and cyclists of all ages.  Add your colorful ride to bicycles of all flavors: road bikes, mountain bikes, fixies, unicycles, tall bikes, choppers, tricycles, recumbents, training wheels, and more!

The parade assembly area is at South Avenue and Science Park. Assembly area D-15.  Plan to arrive around 8:00 AM; the assembly area is closed (no participants may enter) after 8:15.  The parade begins at 10:30, so we have two hours to decorate bikes (Bring Your Own Flowers!), organize, and socialize.

The parade route goes north on South Avenue to Highland Avenue, then east to Goodman Street.  Parades are characterized by lots of stop-and-go, so you will probably have your feet on the ground a lot!  We will have many types of bike and many groups participating; this will be a celebration of the many facets of the Rochester bicycle community.

Car parking is not provided. You will have to figure that one out, or better yet, ride your bike to the festival!

  • Bike Drive/Collection for R Community Bikes (9am-1pm) - Sponsored by Greece Rotary. Donate your gear at Ridgemont Country Club (3717 W Ridge Rd) in the main parking lot. All bikes and parts, new and old, broken and mint condition are welcome.

R Community Bikes, located at 226 Hudson Avenue, is a grassroots, 501(c)3 organization that collects and repairs used bicycles for distribution, free of charge, to Rochester, NY's most needy children and adults. Our mission is meeting the basic transportation needs of those in the community who depend on bikes for recreation as well as for transport to work, school, rehabilitation programs, and training sessions.

This ride also highlights some of the work done by FUA Krew (an international group of graffiti artists that was formed in the Rochester nearly 30 years ago.)

May 14th:

  • Ride your bike to the Public Market! (7am-Noon) Avoid the gasoline-powered traffic jam and enjoy bicycle rock-star parking at the Market's bike racks.  Bring your panniers to take home lots of goodies!

  • 2013 Rochester Bicycle Film Festival (6:30-10:30pm) - On May 14th, Tuesday of Bicycle Week, Rochester's 2013 Bicycle Film Festival will be held at the landmark Cinema Theatre at Goodman St and Clinton Avenue.

In the Cinema Theatre tradition of the double feature, we will be showcasing two feature films.

With My Own Two Wheels is an award-winning documentary about the power of bicycles to enhance lives and improve communities. Filmed in multiple locations around the globe, it showcases how ingenuity, determination, and this simple machine can bring great benefit to people practically and economically.

Race Across America is filmmaker Stephen Auerbach's exploration of this amazing 3000 mile, 10 day race. It is a story of grit and determination, tucked away from the money and glory of high-profile professional team bicycle racing. The competitors challenge themselves and each other in near obscurity, testing their mental, physical, and emotional endurance in what has been described as one of world's most grueling races.

Between these two films, take a few moments for refreshments and a chance to chat with friends, and enjoy a series of entertaining 3 minute “bike shorts!” We will be featuring short films which have won bicycle film festival awards, as well as premiering an entirely Rochester hometown short bike film.

The evening's events will be rounded out by cycling goodies, news, and information available in the lobby, as well as entertaining slides in the pre-film “preview” slide loop.

The 2013 Rochester Bicycle Film Festival is a noncommercial venture provided for the entertainment of our community. Proceeds of the Festival will benefit World Bicycle Relief (http://www.worldbicyclerelief.org.) Their mission statement: “In the hands of a student, healthcare worker or entrepreneur, this bicycle is life changing. Individuals, communities, and entire economies are empowered. On average each bicycle in the field improves 5 people's lives.”

Tickets are $6.00, available through your Local Bicycle Shop, and may sell out! If you ride your bike to the event and show your helmet with your ticket, receive a $1.00 cash rebate. Bike parking provided. More info at: https://www.facebook.com/events/138064749714306/

May 18th:

  • Ride your bike to the Public Market! (6am-2pm) Avoid the gasoline-powered traffic jam and enjoy bicycle rock-star parking at the Market's bike racks.  Bring your panniers to take home lots of goodies!

  • Free Field Repair Clinic (3pm) - Full Moon Vista Bike & Sport.
    661 South Avenue.
Sometimes your ride can be unexpectedly interrupted by more than just a simple flat tire. Bicycles are touted as simple machines, until it's actually time to fix them.
Bicycles have a lot of moving parts that can be vulnerable to their surroundings. Derailleurs get caught on sticks, potholes come out of nowhere, and don't forget about stray dogs (or other riders) who dart out in front of you! Knowing how to make simple repairs may be the difference between riding and walking home. This clinic won't make you a master mechanic, but it will arm you with the knowledge to diagnose minor problems and get you back on your bike! The clinic will be mostly classroom style but you'll have opportunities for hands-on experience too. We encourage you to attend because the ride you save may be your own!

  • Genesee Community Charter School's Rochester Kidical Mass Ride (4-5:30pm) - Erie Canal Ride, 4.2 mi. Meet up at Schoen Place, Pittsford Village (look for us on the towpath by Aladdin’s). Ride to Lock 32 Park, learn about the history of the canal from student experts. Ride back to Schoen Place and enjoy an early dinner with new friends at one of the many local restaurants...or go straight for dessert!

    What exactly is Kidical Mass?
A Kidical Mass ride is a family-friendly, kid-centric version of Critical Mass rides, where riders take to the streets for fun and to raise awareness about bicycling. To learn more, check out www.kidicalmass.org/faq

    Why now?
In 2012, the League of American Bicyclists recognized Rochester, NY, as a Bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community. The sixth grade class at Genesee Community Charter School took on the challenge of learning about and promoting Rochester’s Bicycle Master Plan as part of their capstone research project. The ROC Kidical Mass was created to help inspire the next generation of bicyclists and to celebrate bicycle culture in our community.

  1. I'm amazed, I have to say. Really hardly at any time do I experience a site that's the two educative and entertaining, and allow me tell you, you might have strike the nail on the head. Your concept is fantastic the issue is anything that not ample men and women are speaking intelligently about. I am very joyful that I stumbled across this in my find for anything referring to this.
